Anime Vs Cartoon
This is a question that is often asked, and not so often answered correctly. Anime is Japanese animation not Japanese cartoons. Cartoon is a word used in the same way anime is, it is simply a type of animation that originated from America.
Comparing physical appearances, anime is somewhat closer to reality than cartoons. Anime characters have distinct facial expressions, physically they look very different as the animators make sure the characters have different body types and usually spend more time making the proportions different per person. Anime characters have bigger eyes and smaller mouths which makes for a cuter art style. On the other hand, cartoon characters usually have features that aren't relative to the body, making it less realistic. It's a given that the power puff girls have large eyes and small mouths which is, as I've just explained, something that is usually found in anime. It has previously been thought that the power puff girls is an anime, or at the very least the art style used was influenced by the art style used in anime's and manga's, but in all actuality, the power puff girls art style was influenced by the artwork of Margaret Keane.
